This is one of most popular soups in Vietnam especially on extreme hot weather days when you just don’t feel like eating anything but drinking water and juices. What you can do bring back appetite for all family members on those days is to cook Canh chua ngao or sweet sour clam soup.
Ingredients:

1 kg clam with shells
2 Chili splited
30 g tamarind pulps
2 tomatoes cut into wedges
scallion, herbs,spring onion, cilantro chopped
1 block firm tofu cut into 1-inch cubes
3 cloves garlic minced
1/4 pineapple thinly sliced
1-2 green star fruit
1/3 tbsp salt
2 cups water
1 tbsp chicken stock
3-4 tbsp sugar
1/2 cup boiling hot water
1/2 tbsp vegetable oil
1 tbsp Fish sauce

    I don't often see clams down here in New Orleans where I live, but I do get mussels in…thinking I might try to build off your recipe with mussels and see how they do!!

    What are your thoughts on the substitution?
